What our patients say:

Follicular transplantation with the FUE technique

Description of the FUE technique
Alopecia and baldness due to genetic inheritance are generally more problematic to treat and prevent. FUE, acronym for Follicular Unit Extraction, is a safe and effective treatment that involves extraction of follicular units from certain parts of the head and their relocation in the bald area to be treated.

The process is based on the extraction of follicular units, which can comprise up to 4 hairs, one at a time. The surgeon's skill is of great importance in the extraction of a greater number of units in one unique session, thus avoiding further inconvenience to the donor. Among other advantages is the fact that Follicular Unit Extraction does not require any cuts or stitching, unlike other transplant procedures, thus avoiding post-operative issues.

First hair consultation

The first consultation of the patient with the surgeon that will perform the treatment establishes the key points of the viable treatment plan. Patients are given the opportunity to explain their expectations and the professional will give a reasoned response depending on the particular case in order to establish specific objectives. Decisions made in this consultation have an important impact on both long-term results and the satisfaction of the patient, as some patients may have altogether unrealistic expectations which must be immediately addressed by the surgeon.

In the Hair Transplantation consultation, the surgeon evaluates the patient as mentioned above. He or she then studies the area to be treated, hairline design, the density and quality of hair, the diameter of each, the colour and contrast with the scalp, and the number of hairs per follicle to be used. Before any decisions are made, the patient's medical history is reviewed, to ascertain if any previous surgery or treatment has been performed in the treatment area, photographs are requested of when the patient had more hair and also information regarding family history. The decision to be made by the surgeon for the treatment plan depends on the type and classification of alopecia, the two main categories of alopecia being Scarring and Non-scarring Alopecia, for which some treatment prior to surgery may be defined in order to improve surgical results and the quality of hair, or possibly even resolve the issue without the need for surgery. If surgery is opted for, then the patient is informed about any possible side effects and post-surgical treatment and care.
